Why Support The King’s Christian School?

The King’s Christian School  is a 501(c)3 charitable organization and ministry dedicated to transforming children’s lives by equipping and strengthening students through education and example that they might stand firmly upon the Word of God and become effective servant leaders.  We measure our success on the ability of our graduates to make an impact on the world through their Christian walk.  Our programs create a safe and nurturing learning environment that integrates the biblical worldview into all curricular areas with excellence.

Philanthropic gifts of all sizes are essential to continue in our mission.  Your contributions enable us to serve our students by attracting and retaining outstanding faculty, providing scholarship assistance for families who would otherwise not be able to afford a Christian education, providing innovative technology for classroom integration, and managing operational cost that are not covered through tuition.

We’ve been blessed with a number of exciting opportunities for students over the past few years such as a $150,000 gift for student scholarships, $50,000 donation for technology, a $20,000 donation for science equipment and most recently, our First Things First Program that enables all first graders to enroll with a 50% tuition discount.  All second graders automatically receive a 25% tuition discount under the First Things First Program.  An anonymous philanthropist is donating the difference in tuition for these first, second and third graders with his hope of increasing elementary enrollment.

We look forward to seeing what else God has in store of us and hope you will consider a contribution to our ministry.

Fundraising Programs

The Annual Fund Drive- Goal is $360,000. Each fiscal year, donors are encouraged to contribute to the Annual Fund Drive.  This fund provides the difference between tuition collected and the annual cost of operations.  Meeting the yearly goals of the Annul Fund is essential to provide the basic needs of the school: teacher salaries, scholarship assistance, instructional costs, facility cost, and debt service. There are six categories that compose the Annual Fund:  (1) Scholarship Assistance, (2)  Faculty Support ,  (3) Athletics, (4) Fine and Performing Arts, (5) Building and Grounds and (6) Technology.
TKCS Annual Golf and Walk Classic -Goal $100,000
Over the past five years, King’s has organized a golf and walk fundraiser to benefit our families who qualify for scholarship assistance based on financial need.  This event, held in May, is the main fundraiser each year for the school.  The golf event will be held at Pine Hill Country Club on May 17, 2010, and has had an average attendance of forty golfers who have raised money for King’s.  The walk-a-thon on May 19, 2010, will be  held at the Laurel Acres Park.  For the past three years we have averaged 92% student participation.  The entire school has rallied behind this event and we have averaged $80,000 per year in total donations to King’s.  The donations raised have enabled over 47% of our students to receive a total of $345,000 in scholarship aid during the 2009-10 school year.  The students are treated to a wonderful lunch and then walk around the park raising needed funds for their fellow students and families.  We encourage anyone (parents, grandparents, alumni, friends of the school) to join us for two days of fun while at the same time raising scholarship money for The King’s Christian School. Planned-Giving Opportunities

There has been a sudden rise in non-cash gifts being given to charities because of the tremendous savings to both the donor and the organization they care about.  Gifts of appreciated property, lead trusts, annuity trusts and donor-advised funds are just a few of the more sophisticated giving methods being used today.

The King’s Christian School has partnered with Heritage Keystone Advisors, LLC, located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, a financial and stewardship planning firm that specializes in helping individuals and non-profit organizations do more with their financial resources.  Below are a few of the planned-giving opportunities The King’s Christian School can now offer through their planned-giving associate.

A Planned-Giving Guide

Below please find a brief summary of some of the planned-giving  opportunities available to help meet your giving goals.

• Direct Gifts – Charitable donations that go from you to a charitable organization.  Because such contributions are generally tax deductible, the more you donate to charity, the more tax benefit you receive – as long as your itemized deductions exceed the standard deduction and your donations don’t exceed adjusted gross income (AGI) limits.

• Partial Interest Gifts – Partial gifts provide an income tax deduction for the interest passing to charity (valued as of the date of the gift).  Such a gift creates a charitable gift tax deduction, excludes the property from your estate for estate tax purposes, and might offer other deductions for substantially improving the property.

• Charitable Remainder Trusts (a type of a Partial Interest Gift) – A charitable remainder trust (CRT) is a great way to give to a charity and reduce your taxable estate. To create one, you donate assets to an irrevocable trust, name one or more charities as the remainder beneficiaries, and name yourself or someone else as the income beneficiary.   The CRT trustee invests the trust assets.  The trust makes annual distributions to the income beneficiary.  When you contribute to a CRT; you will receive an immediate (same year) tax deduction.

• Charitable Lead Trust (a type of a Partial Interest Gift) – Essentially, a charitable lead trust (CLT) is the reverse of a CRT.  It’s an irrevocable trust that gives one or more charities, as opposed to you or another beneficiary, the income interest.  The CLT’s remainder interest passes (either outright or in trust) to you, your children or other non-charity beneficiaries.  You can establish a CLT during your lifetime or at death through your will or trust and receive a gift or estate tax deduction for the interest passing to charity.

• Charitable Gift Annuities – A charitable gift annuity is a legal agreement between you and a charity in which you give money, securities, or real estate to the charity, and in return, the organization agrees to pay you a fixed income for life.  Several factors determine the actual amount of the annuity you receive, including: your age at the time of the gift; the rate of return the charity expects to earn; the gift amount; and whether the payments will begin immediately or be deferred until a later time.

• Donor Advised Funds – A donor advised fund (DAF) is a charitable account you set up in your name – for example: the John Doe Charitable Gift Fund.  The account is physically held by an organization – such as a community foundation, university, or charitable arm of an investment firm – that administers the funds and makes the grants.  You make recommendations to the organization that holds the DAF as to which charities it should distribute the funds.  You can name a particular charity, several charities, or even to a broad category of nonprofit organizations – such as those that support the arts, promote literacy, or alleviate homelessness.  A DAF can make grants in your name or anonymously.

• Private Foundations – In its simplest form, a private foundation is a charitable, grant-making organization that is privately funded and controlled.  A foundation makes periodic gifts for the donor, or whomever the donor has appointed as representative.  The private foundation is more costly to start and more involved than the Donor Advised Fund.  It must file an annual tax return (IRS Form 990-PF) as well as pay a 2% excise tax on net investment income.  For those donating significant money, Private Foundations do, however, make an excellent way to teach stewardship to future generations.

Please do not hesitate to call Mr. Verlander or Mr. Schall if you are considering a gift in the formats described above.
