High School Profile
2016 - 2017

Grades 9 - 12 enrollment approximately 131, senior class 37. Fully accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and Association of Christian Schools International.

 

Curriculum

The King's Christian School has a comprehensive written curriculum guide in all instructional areas. The school also maintains a scope and sequence booklet and course selection guides. The school's philosophy is the foundation of the curriculum development. Curriculum committees and textbook selection committees develop, review, and update curriculum. The committees report their recommendations to the Leadership Team and the School Excellence Committee.

Over 70 courses offered in language arts, world language, mathematics, history, science, Bible, computer, art, mechanical drawing, music, physical education, and health in a traditional classroom setting. Online courses are also offered. Students are required to take English, Bible, physical education, and health yearly; three years of  social studies; three years of  science; three years of math; two years of a world language; ten credits in fine, performing, and practical arts; writing and research; careers/life skills; and SAT prep.

The school does participate in the NJ Textbook Loan program and the NJ Technology Initiative.

 

Testing

Stanford Achievement Tests are administered to students grades K-10 each year. The PSAT is administered to all 9, 10th and 11th graders. 

 

Honors Courses

Honors English is offered to high school students by invitation. An accelerated Math/Science Program is offered to those who have taken Algebra I/Physical Science in the 8th grade year. An accelerated World Language Program is offered to those who have taken Spanish I in the 8th grade year. AP US History and AP English Language and Composition are offered in the Junior Year. AP English, AP Calculus, and AP Biology are offered in the senior year. AP Music theory is offered to students who have taken Music Theory I.  

 

Advanced Placement (AP)

Advanced Placement (AP) high school classes are regulated by National College Board Standards. These classes have extensive specific terminology and 1-2 hours of outside work a night which includes independent study where students are expected to apply critical principles.  Because of the extensive material to cover, AP classes have an aggressive schedule making attendance crucial to maintaining discipline and success in the courses.  AP classes have pre-requisites which include entrance and summer requirements.
