National Student Council outlines four tenets of student council: leadership, service, voice, and engagement.

Leadership:
Members of Student Council are expected to set a positive example for others to follow. By participating in Student Council, students have the opportunity to develop and expand their leadership knowledge and skills.

Service:
An effective student council should strive to care for their school and community through volunteerism. Volunteerism should not be limited to Student Council members; the Student Council should create opportunities for the student body to serve their school and community.

Voice:
Student Council is the voice of the student body and it should serve as the link between the students and the school. Student Council members should create opportunities for every member of the student body to voice their opinions.

Engagement:
Student Council should sponsor activities, projects, and events that include the entire student body. Student Council should make every student feel welcome and a part of school life.

STUDENT BODY POSITIONS

The following positions represent the student body as a whole. Click on each position below to view the responsibilities of that position. Note: a Declaration of Candidacy Form must be filled out, signed, and turned in to Mrs. Boszczuk by Friday, May 5th in order to run for any of the listed positions. If you do not wish to run, but still want to be involved in Student Council, please feel free to attend our public meetings.

Please note, you must be a junior or a senior to run for Student Body President.

The President

– Shall maintain the accepted academic standard of a 2.5 GPA and acceptable behavioral record throughout the year (verified approximately every nine weeks). If this is not met, the representative will come before the Judicial Committee for a closed hearing to determine his or her future status.

– Shall be the Chief Executive of the Executive Committee.

– Shall preside at all Executive Committee and General meetings.

– Shall facilitate regular two-way communication between students, faculty, staff, parents, and administration.

– Shall regularly check on Executive Officers and Class Representatives.

– Shall be the Master of Ceremonies of all programs and assemblies as designated by the Principal.

– Shall manage morning announcements, as well as announcements at various school functions (i.e. musical concerts, performances, etc.) with permission of the faculty in charge of a given function.

– Shall have the power to veto over all Executive Committee legislation, with approval of the Principal and Student Council Advisor.

– Shall faithfully execute all provisions of the constitution and legislation of the Executive Officers.

– Shall appoint all committees and the chairmen of such, and shall serve as an ex officio member of all committees.

– Shall serve as an intermediary between the administration and the student government and shall present all government business to the administration.

– Shall cast the deciding vote in case of a tie.

The Vice President

– Shall maintain the accepted academic standard of a 2.5 GPA and acceptable behavioral record throughout the year (verified approximately every nine weeks). If this is not met, the representative will come before the Judicial Committee for a closed hearing to determine his or her future status.

– Shall perform the duties of the President in his/her absence (see above).

– Shall assist in the drawing up of all agendas and assembly programs with the permission and guidance of any Faculty involved in the activities or programs.

– Shall assist with facilitation of regular two-way communication between students, faculty, staff, parents, and administration.

– Shall assist with morning announcements, as well as announcements at various school functions (i.e. musical concerts, performances, etc.) with permission of the faculty in charge of a given function.

– Shall oversee the various committees.

– Shall perform all other duties which may be assigned by the President or the Advisor.

The Secretary

– Shall maintain the accepted academic standard of a 2.5 GPA and acceptable behavioral record throughout the year (verified approximately every nine weeks). If this is not met, the representative will come before the Judicial Committee for a closed hearing to determine his or her future status.

– Shall keep and file an accurate record of all Student Council meetings and Executive Committee meetings.

– Shall post meeting minutes in a timely manner at the conclusion of all Executive and Student Council meetings.

– Shall create meeting agendas.

– Shall distribute meeting agendas and minutes to all members of the Council before scheduled meetings.

– Shall perform all Student Council correspondence: keep file of all letters received and their date and day of receipt.

– Shall coordinate with the Yearbook Staff and Advisor to commemorate all student events.

– Shall write notes and letters that pertain to various student events.

– Shall create or delegate the creation of activity posters and social media content related to various events.

– Shall upkeep the monthly student Newsletter.

– Shall receive and file monthly reports as written by all committee chairmen.

– Shall inform the Student Council records of all Executive Committee meetings.

The Chaplain

– Shall maintain the accepted academic standard of a 2.5 GPA and acceptable behavioral record throughout the year (verified approximately every nine weeks). If this is not met, the representative will come before the Judicial Committee for a closed hearing to determine his or her future status.

– Shall be the advocate for spiritual life to the Executive Committee and to the Student body.

– Shall introduce weekly Chapel speakers by name and Church represented.

– Shall act as liaison between students, teachers, staff, and administration, in coordination with the Executive Committee Secretary.

– Shall keep record of all chapel speakers and Churches they represent.

– Shall organize and facilitate regular spiritual events including See You At the Pole, monthly focus campaigns, and various character education events.

– Shall coordinate with the school counselor and Bible Teachers to improve student body behaviors and mindsets.

Class Representatives: Grades 7 through 12

The responsibilities of the elected Class Representatives shall be:

– To maintain the accepted academic standard of a 2.5 GPA and acceptable behavioral record throughout the year (verified approximately every nine weeks). If this is not met, the representative will come before the Judicial Committee for a closed hearing to determine his or her future status.

– To attend the general session portion of all Student Government meetings.

– To give reports of Student Council meetings to their respective homerooms. This will be validated by the homeroom teacher on a specified form.

– To carry back to the Student Council suggestions and complaints of enrolled students.

– To aid the Student Council members from their respective class with any class responsibilities.

– To serve on committees of the Student Council and to recruit other students to participate.

HOW TO APPLY

** NOTE: You may only Campaign for one position.**

To be on the official ballot, you need to complete the following steps by Friday, May 5th:

  1. Fill out, sign, and submit a Declaration of Candidacy Form due, emailed to Mrs. Boszczuk, no later than 11:59 pm on Friday, May 5th.  Forms can be sent to Mrs. Boszczuk via email at sboszczuk@tkcs.org.

  • An election meeting will be held during lunch on Wednesday, 5/3 in room 110.  Please read through all documents carefully before attending this meeting.
  1. Be prepared to Campaign (advertise which position you are running for) from Monday 5/15 through Friday 5/19.

  • Campaign Guidelines Spring 2023:
  • Campaigning may include any of the following items:
      1. Making a short speech during an approved lunch period any day between Monday 5/15 and Friday 5/19.
      2. One large poster that is no larger than 3×4 feet.
      3. Up to 5 size 8″ x 11″ posters that are distributed in various classrooms with teacher approval.
      4. Small flyers to hand out to students.
