Celebrating John Fort’s 30 Years of Board Service

In the early 1980’s, John Fort made a career choice that changed the trajectory of his life. It wasn’t the start of his 35 year career at Campbell’s Soup but the contract he signed to teach at a small Christian school in the suburbs of South Jersey. John’s decision to teach Bible and History at King’s and his eventual transition from employee to board member illustrates his unshaking dedication to Christian school education. He has served King’s in many roles over the years  but June 30, 2026 marks the final day of John’s 30 year tenure as a board member of The King’s Christian School.

Throughout his time on the board, John has witnessed both the successes and difficulties of a Bible-based school in a fallen world. With each graduating class, he has rejoiced in the Lord’s provision for King’s. In the face of heavy decisions, John led with humility and pointed the way toward prayer. He not only served as Board President for nearly two decades but chaired or participated in numerous committees dedicated to the long term success of the school. In these last few years on the board, he has been an extraordinary example to his fellow members, acting as the de facto King’s historian and policy guide. 

Any recognition for John’s role at King’s cannot exclude his family’s involvement. He met his wife Jane when they were both teachers at the school and celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary later this year. Their four children, Andrew, Trevor, Colin and Alexandra, all graduated from King’s and have had front row seats to his continued devotion to the school. His son Trevor put it this way, “Even after all of his kids graduated from King’s, he thought so highly of what the school did for his kids that he just wanted to help in any way he could.” When John steps down from the board this month, it will mark the first time in more than 45 years that a member of the Fort family has not been a teacher, student, administrator or board member at King’s.

The King’s Christian School could not be more grateful for John Fort’s longstanding faithfulness and humble dedication to the school and Christian education. He joins many others who have been called to support the school financially, prayerfully, and in service to the mission of the school throughout its nearly 80 year history. As he spends more time with his family and friends in Ocean City, by the pool, or watching sports, on behalf of the entire school, we honor his example and pray he continues to be blessed.
